Who We Are

Bergeron Funeral Services & Crematorium Ltd. located in Dawson Creek, British Columbia is family owned and operated by Gerry and Peggy Bergeron which opened October 1994.

Gerry Bergeron, Funeral Director, Embalmer

Gerry Bergeron has over 30 years in the funeral industry as a certified Funeral Director and Embalmer in the province of British Columbia.  Gerry was born and raised in Dawson Creek and is the son of Bob and Jessie Bergeron  (both deceased). Gerry’s family has been part of the Peace River district since 1925 when grandfather A.J. Bergeron (Mrs. Aimie Bergeron) moved from Grande Prairie, Alberta, to Rolla, B.C. where he managed the H. F. Johnson store. From there they moved to Pouce Coupe and purchased the F. Haskins Trading Co. store in 1937. The Bergeron family members have continued to live in this area ever since.

Gerry is married to Peggy and have two daughters, Sabrina and Anna. They believe Dawson Creek is an excellent place to raise a family and are pleased about having established a business which concentrates on serving the community with integrity and compassion.

Peggy Bergeron, Funeral Director, Celebrant

Peggy Bergeron (nee Johnson), with a degree in Education from the University of Alberta, has fifteen years experience as an educator and has worked along side Gerry as a funeral director since 1995. Peggy was born in Dawson Creek, and is the daughter of Fred and May Johnson of Cherry Point, Alberta (50 miles north of Dawson Creek) who were also pioneers to this area. Her grandparents Jesse and Carolyn Johnson, early Peace settlers operated a store in Cherry Point, Alberta. The majority of Peggy's family are involved in the cattle and agriculture industries.

Along with being a funeral director Peggy has branched into working as a ‘celebrant’ for families wanting to celebrate and honour the life of their loved one within a non denominational or less traditional style of service.  Peggy has found this to be very rewarding as she works alongside families to personalize a service that best honours and pays tribute to that unique individual.

Brian Waddell, Funeral Director, Embalmer

Brian Waddell is a lifelong resident of Dawson Creek. The Waddell family moved to the Peace region in 1956, where grandparents Orville and Clara Waddell started the family farm. Brian was raised by Robert and Linda Waddell. He spent time on Vancouver Island learning the craft of guitar building and repair. He also has a great love of music and art. Brian has worked hard in the customer service field for over 18 years and brings that knowledge and care to the funeral industry.

Brian married Shelbie Clay in 1999 and they have three children, Drake, Grace and Oliver. Brian and Shelbie spend their spare time  involved in their children's many activities as well as with their own pursuits in music and sport. Brian and Shelbie want to raise their children in the community they grew up in and teach them to be proud members of their city.

Cathy Tubb, Celebrant & Prearrangement Counsellor

Cathy (Scriba) Tubb was raised in Heart Valley, Alberta and has lived in the Dawson Creek area since 1987. She is married to Phillip and they have two grown sons, a lovely daughter in–law and three grandchildren. Cathy and Phillip live in the Kiskatinaw valley where they enjoy country living. She has a background in education, crisis intervention, and technical writing and design. Cathy brings a strong desire to serve the community with care and compassion. She believes that every life is a story worth sharing and celebrating.

Wanda is present at our funeral services as an assistant, making sure things run smoothly and that compassionate care and consideration are given to all our guests.

Nicole Butchart, Office Administration

Nicole Butchart joined our team in the spring of 2017. She is new to our area, coming from Edmonton with her fiancé, and is enjoying getting to know the community. She has a background in the arts and heritage communities in Edmonton, studied in Italy on two occasions, and has previously worked at the Alberta Legislature. She enjoys painting in acrylics and watercolour and cooking a variety of cuisines in her free time. Nicole has especially enjoyed meeting the families at Bergeron’s and having a role in preserving the memory of their loved ones through memorial cards, signing books, and monuments.
